1. Lake Cherrywood Park
The picturesque Lake Cherrywood Park in downtown Sherwood is one of the prettiest places in town. The park’s woodlands surround the beautiful lake and create the ideal setting to spend time outdoors and enjoy the peace and tranquility of nature. People come to the park to take leisurely strolls through the woods and along the lake’s grassy shores, feed the ducks, and enjoy picnics in the shade of the trees or under the gazebos.
The lake is a popular fishing spot and is periodically stocked with bass and catfish by the Arkansas Game and Fish Department. The park also has picnic tables, basketball courts, and a playground and swingset for the little ones.
Address and Hours
Lake Cherrywood Park on Summit Street off of Kiehl Avenue in Sherwood is open every day all year round.
2. The Roundtop Filling Station
Adorable and cute is the only way to describe the Roundtop Filling Station. The Roundtop is a perfect example of Mimetic or Novelty architecture designed to mimic unconventional forms or objects associated with their function typically used to attract customers during the mid-20th century.
The little roadside attraction on the once well-traveled U.S. Highway 67 between St. Louis and Little Rock was built in 1936 by Justin Matthews Company for the Pierce Oil Company and is listed on the Historic Preservation Alliance of Arkansas’s Most Endangered Historic Places List and the National Register of Historic Places. Today the building is proudly used as a substation for the Sherwood Police Department.
Address and Hours
The Roundtop Filling Station is at 6491 Roundtop Road in Sherwood, and you can take a look anytime.
3. The Greens at North Hills
The historic Greens at North Hills golf course was built by real estate developer Justin Matthews Sr. in 1926 and was initially called Sylvan Hills Country Club. The 18-hole course, then the finest in the state, had an impressive stone clubhouse and the first public swimming pool in Arkansas.
In the 1970s, famed golf architect Robert Trent Jones, Sr., redesigned the golf course, and it is now owned and operated by the City of Sherwood and listed on the National Register of Historic Places. There’s always something happening, with plenty of championship games and golf programs offered to the public.
Address and Hours
The Greens at North Hills is at 7400 Highway 107. Tee times begin at 8 a.m. from Tuesday to Sunday, and carts must be returned by 5 p.m.
