1. Roundtop Filling Station
Built in the 1930s by the Pierce Oil Company, the Roundtop Filling Station is one of the oldest structures in the city of Sherwood and was added to the National Registry of Historic Places in 2008. In 2010, it was featured in “The Last Ride”, a film centered around the life of American singer and music pioneer Hank Williams. This antique gas station fell into decay until a restoration project began in 2013.
When the Roundtop Filling Station first opened in 1936, electric gas pumps were not widely available, and therefore gas was hand-pumped into a measuring glass bowl before filling each car. Electric pumps were finally installed in the early 1940s. This historical spot is located in Old Highway 67, which once was a highly transited section of the route between St. Louis and Little Rock. Getting here from the Sherwood town center takes about five minutes by car along Wildwood Avenue.
2. Lake Cherrywood Park
Located less than a mile from the Sherwood town center, Lake Cherrywood Park is one of the most popular weekend destinations among locals and visitors from Little Rock and other nearby cities. The main feature of this beautiful park is Lake Cherrywood, an artificial body of water regularly stocked by the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission that features healthy populations of largemouth bass, channel catfish, rainbow trout, and other species.
While fishing is the most popular recreational activity at Lake Cherrywood Park, this nature reserve also features excellent facilities including fully equipped
picnic areas with tables and public grills, children’s playgrounds, a large gazebo, and a basketball court. Open 24 hours a day all year round, Lake Cherrywood Park can be reached in less than five minutes by car or a 15-minute walk from the Sherwood City Hall, following Summit Street and Kiehl Avenue.
3. Enchanted Forest Trail of Lights
Located at the Sherwood Sports Complex, the Enchanted Forest Trail of Lights is a drive-thru trail that attracts hundreds of visitors during the winter months. Open between 6:00 p.m. and 09:30 p.m., this place features a little over a mile of beautiful lights and can be visited free of charge. At the end of the trail, each visitor receives a candy cane as a gift. Getting to this attraction from the Sherwood City Hall takes less than 10 minutes by car.
