For those who are visiting Arkansas for the first time, or even for those who have been long time residents, Crain Kia of Sherwood would like to recommend some unique places here in The Natural State we think you should give a try. Check out some of the most unusual places in Arkansas below.
StoneWind Retreat
Our first recommendation for unique lodging is to check out StoneWind Retreat. Not only is it the terrain that makes this unique, but the real kicker is that you’ll be staying in a yurt. These yurts are built on fully furnished decks which means they are perfect for long term and short term stays. There are a total of eight yurts, all of which are 700-plus square feet in size. This means that even larger families are going to be able to have a comfortable stay.
In addition to the beautiful yurts, the location itself is amazing. The yurts are located near the Boston Mountains, which provides an amazing backdrop for your stay. All of the Yurts are built on 40-by-40 feet decks to give you a spot to perch while you take in the view. StoneWind Retreat is located at 15840 Wilson Branch Drive in Chester.
Turpentine Creek Wildlife Refuge
For fans of animals, check out Turpentine Creek Wildlife Refuge. In addition to being a big cat sanctuary, the wildlife refuge also offers overnight accommodations, such as safari lodges for adults and treehouses for families. Home to over 100 rescued animals, as well as host to many events and educational opportunities, even if you don’t plan to spend the night, you can learn a lot while you see, hear, and learn about the wildlife.
They offer two very unique specialty tours. Coffee with the Curator will land you a behind the scenes tour of the refuge, as well as breakfast and the opportunity to chat about the history of Turpentine Creek Wildlife Refuge. The Carnivore Caravan offers a personally guided tour of Turpentine Creek, escorted by a senior animal care member. This refuge is located at 239 Turpentine Creek Lane in Eureka Springs. Summer hours are from 9 a.m.-6 p.m., while winter hours are from 9 a.m.-5 p.m.
Livingston Junction Cabooses and Cabin
If you’re looking for something really unique, we would recommend the Livingston Junction Cabooses and Cabin. As you might be able to tell by the name, Livingston Junction has a series of caboose cabins. They have pictures on their website of their different themed cabooses. All of them look like they provide plenty of space, plus they also appear pretty comfy! For larger families, they have a Railroad Depot Cabin if you’re looking for something with significantly more space. You can find the cabin and cabooses at 1 Stonehaven Lane in Eureka Springs.
There are plenty of places to stay in Arkansas, but these are a few of the most unusual. Imagine the stories you’ll have to share of your night in a yurt overlooking the mountains or a treehouse above the animals in a refuge. Get out there and enjoy the unusual places in Arkansas!
