You can experience a variety of trails in mountain state parks, municipal parks, and dedicated trails, for a single or multi-day adventure. Read on to learn more about each unique trail for your next trip.

Pinnacle Mountain State Park

Located just west of Little Rock, this state park features over 40 miles of trails winding around rivers and beautiful forestry. Hikers have the option to choose the hard or easy side of the mountain, but once you reach the cone-shaped peak of Pinnacle Mountain, you have gorgeous views below. There are plenty of picnic tables, playgrounds, and resting spots to take advantage of along the way.

Burns Park

This 1,700-acre park has numerous activities for the entire family including various multi-use trails. There are 3 popular easy-walking trails– –Burns Green Loop, Big Dam Bridge Trail, and the Red Loop Trail differing in length and offering amazing scenery. All trails offer many opportunities to view wildlife, native plants and wildflowers. There are both paved and unpaved sections of trail giving you many options for your hiking experience.

Arkansas River Trail

With over 21 miles to explore, you can tailor your hiking trip as short or long as you want. It is a beautifully maintained paved trail system, and the landscape varies along the way from suburban views of Little Rock, mountains, and swampland areas. The trail is relatively flat and offers nice scenery of the Arkansas river at several spots during your hike.

Emerald Park Hiking Trails

This trail follows a bluff line along the Arkansas River and provides fairly flat and mostly paved trails leading to stunning cliff views of the river. You have the option of hiking the switchbacks up the cliff or choosing the less strenuous moderate trails to the top, perfect for all skill levels. You will be rewarded with beautiful views of an old quarry and miles of endless views!

Allsopp Park

There are almost 4 miles of trails that have multiple entrances, loops, and trails that can make every hiking trip interesting. It’s a local neighborhood trail, perfect for a quick getaway but will feel like you’re lost in nature with colorful foliage that is simply breathtaking. The south loop takes you on a tranquil forest walk that is about 1.3 miles that is a local favorite.

Bufflehead Bay Trail

This lesser-known trail is a short, easy, trail loop of about 1.4 miles along the shoreline. It offers views of the Jolly Roger’s Marina, which adds to a delightful hike with plenty of wildlife viewing opportunities. The trail eventually leads to a peninsula offering fantastic views across Lake Maumelle.

Sulphur Creek Trail

This is a tree-lined, pleasant short route that winds its way through the community of Heber Springs. There is an amazing nature trail with a chance to view all sorts of wildlife, woodlands, and greenery. This is a great route to enjoy with the entire family for the day.
