Engine
Kia kept the 2022 hybrid powertrain for the 2023 model. The engine features a single electric motor and a 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine with six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, resulting in a combined 139 horsepower and 195 pound-feet of torque. The 2023 model only has front-wheel drive. The plug-in hybrid powertrain adds extra power to the mix, resulting in 180 horsepower. The plug-in hybrid variant has an 11.1-kilowatt-hour battery pack that offers 33 miles of electric driving range per charge. According to Kia, you can recharge the battery in less than three hours with a Level 2 charger.
Performance
It takes 10.5 seconds to move from zero to 60 miles per hour, but the vehicle is peppy enough not to feel sluggish when entering the highway. Unlike other alternative fuel vehicles that employ single-speed transmissions, the Kia Niro has a swift-shifting six-speed automatic transmission that makes the most out of the powertrain. The Niro rides like a sporty crossover and maintains its composure around maneuvers and turns. It also rides comfortably and absorbs imperfect pavement easily.
Interior
The Kia Niro interior looks like what should be a luxury car, with a sculptural interior design that creates a contemporary feel. Kia uses eco-friendly materials such as natural fibers and recycled materials for the upholstery and headliner. The handsome cabin features a 10.2-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, USB ports, and a six-speaker stereo system. You'll also have access to dual-zone automatic climate control, ambient interior lighting, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, and a sunroof. The Kia Niro has 22.8 cubic feet of cargo space, while the plug-in hybrid offers 19.4 cubic feet of space.

All Kia Niro trims have plenty of safety and driver-assistance features to keep you and your loved ones safe. Standard features include forward automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, forward collision warning, rear cross-traffic alert, blind-spot monitoring, lane-keep assist, driver attention monitoring, and many others.
