Sherwood, AR is absolutely beautiful in the summer, with a bounty of outdoor areas to spend time with family and friends as you stock up on your weekly dose of vitamin D. If you are aching to get out of the house this weekend, try one of our favorite six spots to pitch picnics in and around town.
Top 6 Spots for Picnics in and Around Sherwood, AR
1. The Dog Park
Nothing puts a smile on one’s face quite like being surrounded by a horde of pups. Whether you’ve got a pooch of your own or derive happiness from being around others’, visit the town’s dog park to bolster your mood instantaneously.
In addition to having two separate pens for dogs under and over twenty-five pounds, there are also several park benches and tables for you to enjoy a meal. Also, if you’re bringing kids with you, look out for the playground equipment not too far away.
2. Fairway Park
Fairway Park is an all-purpose outdoor area, featuring playground equipment for the kids, a playpen for the dogs, a seasonal concession stand and grill, plenty of park benches and tables, and a seasonal pool. Whatever you and your friends and family are planning on getting up to today, visit Fairway Park for an afternoon of fun, sun, and swimming.
As a bonus, one minute down the road south is a smaller grassy area called Silver Creek Park, or one minute up the road north, Delmont Park. Both are great alternatives for when Fairway gets too crowded.
3. Pickthorne Park
With its playground equipment, swing set, and basketball court, Pickthorne Park is the perfect place to meet for a spur-of-the-moment catch-up with your family and friends. Or, if you’re looking to plan a more serious get-together, you’re able to book a pavilion at the park by visiting the City of Sherwood website.
4. Don Hughes Park
Located in the northeastern part of the city, Hughes Park is another great outdoor area that, like Pickthorne, features playground equipment, a swing set, and basketball courts. However, it does have significantly fewer trees than Pickthorne, so depending on how much, or how little, sun you want to get, one may be better for your needs than the other.
5. Austin Lakes Park
Though small compared to the likes of Fairway or Hughes Park, Austin Lakes Park’s modest size lends to its quieter ambiance. With no shortage of trees in sight, cool off in the shade as your friends and family enjoy a more private gathering. There is also playground equipment in the area, so it’s perfect if you’re looking to bring along young kids as well.
6. Storer Park
Located across town from Austin Lakes Park, Storer is of a similar size. It also features playground equipment for your kids, as well as a quarter-mile walking path if you’re looking for a place to exercise that is in the shade for the majority of the day.
Now that summer is here, visit Crain Kia of Sherwood to find the perfect car to get you out of the house and into the sun.
